Employment Opportunities

Currently Little Folks is hiring for Guest Teachers, please contact Melanie Douglass (Director of Programming) to learn more.

At Little Folks School, we create an environment for children to learn through active exploration and interaction with teachers, other children, and the physical world around them. We support the growth and development of the whole child with an emphasis on open-ended play and arts integration. Each year our teaching faculty have the opportunity to apprentice with a Wolf Trap teaching artist, developing new ways to incorporate music, art, dance, and drama into everyday teaching experiences. Our curriculum is emergent and project-based; teachers have the autonomy to create their units of study and daily lesson plans based on the strengths, needs, and interests of their students. Early childhood educators co-teach in teams of two or three teachers. Class sizes range from 12 to 17 students.

At Little Folks, teaching faculty are responsible for:

  • Working closely with other teachers to ensure the safety and well-being  of our students.

  • Creating and implementing lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners in a mixed-age preschool (ages 2.5 to 5 years) or toddler (1.5 years to 2.5 years) classroom.

  • Cultivating a classroom community where students feel safe, loved, and confident.

  • Maintaining a prepared learning environment that stimulates student curiosity, exploration, and skill development.

  • Monitoring and supporting student growth in developmentally appropriate ways.

  • Communicating thoughtfully and intentionally with parents and other members of our school community.

  • Preparing weekly newsletters in collaboration with teaching partners.

  • Participating in school and community events throughout the year. Some events may occur outside of school hours.

An ideal candidate is nurturing, patient, flexible, cooperative, and is able to maintain a positive attitude even during a challenging day! We are seeking a teaching candidate who embraces learning; a person who cultivates a love of learning in their students but also seeks learning opportunities for themselves. At Little Folks, we support our teaching faculty to grow as professionals in their field and look forward to welcoming qualified candidates into our school community. Qualified candidates will have a degree (Master’s preferred) in Early Childhood Education or related field and experience in an early childhood classroom environment. This is a full-day position, from 8:00 am-3:30 pm, spanning the months of September through May. Teachers have the opportunity to work during June and July at our summer camp. Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience and education.
