Highlights & Happenings: In the After School Enrichment Program (ASEP)
The fall semester of the After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) is well under way. Students are busily exploring instruments and using their singing voices in music class, practicing fine motor skills and sequencing in cooking class, learning new vocabulary while using art materials in Spanish class, and engaging in creative story-telling in drama class.
In music class, students have been using drums and rhythm sticks to explore their sense of rhythm and build the concept of a steady beat. This week, teacher Nory helped students practice Halloween songs, accompanying themselves on drums and rhythm sticks.
This week’s cooking class was a blast! Students practiced chopping, mixing, and spreading skills and made a healthy snack! Cooking teacher Marta guided students through a recipe making hummus, cucumber, tomato, and avocado sandwiches. So yummy!
Spanish teacher Sarah has been working with her students on los números “the numbers” by creating collages of numbers 1 to 5. Students are also learning Spanish family vocabulary by making a Mi Familia (My Family) book, where each child has pictures of their family. Children have learned Spanish vocabulary such as: mamá, papá, hermano, hermana, abuelo, abuela, and bebé. ¡Que divertido! How fun!
In Nory’s Drama Class, students used puppets and props to explore the story of “Anansi and the Talking Melon” in a very hands-on way. Students loved retelling the story to each other!
These are just a few of the terrific ASEP classes here at Little Folks School. Other classes include Ballet, Science, Fundamentals of Soccer, and Fundamentals of Sports. Stay tuned for our Winter classes!
