Life After LFS
At Little Folks we consider every child a member of our family. We therefore remain committed to the development and welfare of the child long after graduating. Like parents of Little Folks children, the next step is of prime importance to us. We employ exceptional placement resources for our kids and their parents. Our commitment is evident in support activities we provide to parents throughout the process of school choice, application and admission. In addition to individual meetings with the head of school, the following activities are scheduled:
Head of School Presentation
James Gilroy, Head of School, provides insight and wisdom, leading an interactive discussion about the independent school application process. In addition, parents receive a list of area independent schools as well as contact information for WPPSI test centers. The presentation also includes guidance on how to best support children through this process. This event typically takes place in early October.
Independent School Admissions Visits
Each fall we host a series of visits from other independent schools in the area. We are thankful for strong relationships we keep in order to help our families better understand a school’s history, tradition, curricular programming, and details regarding the admissions process from the admissions directors themselves. We appreciate the partnership from Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School, Georgetown Day School, Maret, National Presbyterian School, Sidwell Friends School, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School, and Sheridan. The dates for these visits are sent out in September for families to mark on their calendars.
Alumni Parent Panel
In October, Little Folks hosts an alumni panel, an event that has become a perennial favorite with our parents. A panel of former Little Folks parents representing top independent, parochial and public schools share their experiences. The candid event also includes a question and answer session between the panel and current parents.
In addition, we consult extensively with every parent in school selection and support their eventual choice. Most of our alumni continue their learning and development in leading independent schools in the region. In recent years, the vast majority of our students gained admission to:
Beauvoir, the National Cathedal Elementary School
Georgetown Day School
National Presbyterian School
St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School
Sidwell Friends School
Washington International School
